Under the patronage of the President of the Northern Technical University, Prof. Dr. Alia Abbas Al-Attar, and under the guidance of the Dean of the Technical Agricultural College, Prof. Dr. Shihab Ahmed Al-Bajari, the Department of Desertification Control Technologies concluded a scientific course entitled “Organic Fertilizers and Their Role in Reducing Desertification.”

The course lectures were delivered by:

The course aimed to highlight the importance of using organic fertilizers in improving the physical, chemical, and biological properties of soil, increasing soil fertility, and reducing soil degradation. It also emphasized the vital role of organic fertilizers in mitigating the effects of desertification and promoting sustainable agricultural production.

The course addressed several key topics, including the types of organic fertilizers, methods of their production and application, and mechanisms for integrating them into agricultural systems. In addition, practical experiences and successful models in land reclamation and combating desertification were presented, enriching participants’ scientific and applied knowledge.

The course concluded with a number of important recommendations, most notably adopting organic fertilizers as part of sustainable agricultural practices, supporting their local production from agricultural and animal waste, enhancing training and scientific research in soil management and desertification control, and expanding academic cooperation to spread environmental awareness.

A number of faculty members and staff of the Technical Agricultural College – Mosul participated in the course, reflecting the college’s commitment to addressing environmental challenges and supporting sustainable development initiatives.
