The Anti-Drug Committee Holds an Awareness Seminar on Article (40) of the Anti-Drug Law.

Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Aliya Abbas Ali Al-Attar, President of the University, the Department of Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance, in collaboration with the Central Anti-Drug Committee, organized an extensive awareness seminar for university students regarding Article (40) of the Anti-Drug Law. The seminar was led by members of the Anti-Drug Committee.

Dr. Ammar Ali Mohammed, Chairman of the Committee, discussed the implications of this law, which distinguishes between drug users, dealers, and traffickers. He emphasized that drug users are considered victims who should undergo treatment under specific conditions, with the first being their voluntary submission to the authorities and acknowledgment of being victims of this criminal activity. Meanwhile, the law classifies traffickers as part of criminal operations that are no less dangerous than terrorist acts and subject to the death penalty.

On another note, Dr. Wael Muneer Mohammed Sadiq, a member of the Anti-Drug Committee, spoke about the health-related aspects, highlighting the dangerous symptoms and signs that gradually appear in drug users. He stressed the importance of staying away from this perilous vice, as it leads to a painful end that affects not only the individual but also their family and society at large.

At the conclusion of the seminar, Dr. Yahya Younis Saeed, another member of the Anti-Drug Committee, discussed the security and societal responsibility that rests on every individual, from the moment drugs enter the borders until they reach the victim. He urged students to report any suspicious activities they may observe in the community or university campus, ensuring complete confidentiality for the informant. He also stressed the importance of youth involvement in community awareness to combat this destructive social issue.

It is worth noting that the Anti-Drug Committee is committed to continuing its efforts to raise awareness among students about the dangers of drugs, while also clarifying Article (40) of the Anti-Drug Law in accordance with the relevant ministerial instructions.
