Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Alia Abbas Al-Attar, President of the Northern Technical University, and under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Shihab Ahmed Al-Bajjari, Dean of the Agricultural Technical College, the Quality Assurance and University Performance Division at the college, in cooperation with the Quality Assurance Department at the University Presidency, organized a workshop entitled “Desertification and Climate Change – Challenges and Solutions” as part of the college’s sustainable development activities.

The workshop was presented by:

• Asst. Prof. Dr. Ahmed Fares Al-Sawwaf, Head of the Department of Desertification Control Techniques.

• Asst. Lecturer Samir Farhan Ayoub.

• Asst. Lecturer Omar Ahmed Fathi.

The workshop aimed to:

• Highlight the phenomenon of desertification and its environmental and human causes.

• Discuss the impact of climate change on agricultural lands and natural resources.

• Review the challenges facing Iraq and the region in combating desertification.

• Present scientific and technical solutions to mitigate desertification.

• Promote cooperation between academic institutions and governmental bodies in the field of environmental sustainability.

At the conclusion of the workshop, participants emphasized the importance of strengthening collaboration between academic institutions and relevant governmental agencies to achieve environmental sustainability goals, address climate change impacts, and contribute to protecting natural resources and supporting sustainable development in Iraq.

The workshop was attended by a number of faculty members and staff of the Agricultural Technical College – Mosul, who enriched the discussions with their valuable insights and contributions.
