Under the patronage of the President of the Northern Technical University, Prof. Dr. Alia Abbas Ali Al-Attar, and under the supervision of the Dean of the Agricultural College, Dr. Abdul-Bar Ahmed Nouri, the Department of Plant Production Techniques organized a workshop entitled (Stevia as a natural sweetener, an alternative to sucrose in foods)

The lecture was delivered by Dr. Wadah Thabet Abd

The workshop aimed to:

Definition of stevia plant as a perennial herb sensitive to frost.

Its leaves are characterized by a high sugar content (twenty to thirty times sweeter than cane sugar).

Low-calorie levels.

The workshop included:

• Introducing the stevia plant and conducting scientific research on it.
• Economic feasibility study and its comparison with table sugar.
• Urging postgraduate students to study the vitality of this plant and the factors affecting its productive qualities.
• Study the effect of this plant on human health.

The workshop was attended by a number of professors, affiliates, and graduate students in the college.
