Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Alia Abbas Al-Attar, President of the Northern Technical University, and the supervision of Prof. Dr. Shihab Ahmed Al-Bajary, Dean of the Agricultural Technical College – Mosul, the Department of Plant Production Techniques organized a scientific symposium entitled:
"Forage and Desert Crops as a Strategic Option to Combat Desertification and Achieve Food Security."
The symposium was presented by Asst. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Amin Waleed, who discussed the importance of integrating forage and desert crops into agricultural systems, particularly in arid and semi-arid regions. The session also highlighted the experience of farmers in the Al-Jazeera area south of Mosul in cultivating drought-resistant crops.
The symposium aimed to establish a scientific vision for expanding the cultivation of forage and desert crops as an effective tool to combat desertification, ensure the sustainability of animal production in marginal environments, and propose research and extension programs to implement sustainable agriculture practices in areas affected by climate change.
A number of faculty members and staff from the Agricultural Technical College – Mosul participated in the event, emphasizing the need to support applied research in drought-resistant crops to enhance food security in Iraq.
