Northern Technical University (NTU) had the following methods within our plan to reduce energy consumption which have been summarized;

1. Solar panels to provide electricity for lighting, and condoning split units were installed all around NTU as one of our progress in for smart building design.

2. Energy station has solar thermal water heaters, to provide hot water for most of the laboratory buildings in winter.

3. NTU installed many solar heaters on the roof of the shopping center as it would be very helpful in the winter season. Additionally, it will consume a lot of energy which in turn reduces the bills of electricity.

4. Air conditioning and Refrigeration Techniques Engineering department, one of the departments at Northern Technical University helped in achieving many industrial projects in addition to the improvement yearly by the studies and research achieved by the staff and students of the department. Heating water is achieved using a Solar evacuated tube collector, flat plate solar collector, and parabolic solar dish collector. Recently, solar collectors and solar dish collectors have been designed with solar tracking systems for better results.

5. Additionally, NTU installs solar panels for mobile charging for students all around the university.

6. Installation of wind generator for lighting purposes. This offers jobs for our society.

7. In the Iraqi climate, HVAC devices utilize a lot of electrical power so, we connect solar energy technology with the HVAC for two major reasons. The first reason is to supply the energy to drive the systems and the second reason is to reduce the emission as much as possible.

Finally, cleaning of all the solar panels had been taken into consideration. Further, many jobs have been offered due to the installation of these systems and used by some postgraduate student in their research.
