A Brief Introduction to the Department of Mechanical Power Engineering

The Department of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineering was established in 1998, and the first batch of graduates graduated in the academic year 2002-2003. In 2018, the name was changed to Power Mechanics Techniques Engineering, to include three specialized scientific branches: Renewable Energy, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, and Production and Automation. The first and second academic years are general for all proposed scientific branches, with students being allocated to the branches starting from the third and fourth academic years, based on the students’ desire and GPA. In 2022, the third branch, Production and Automation, was suspended, while the other two branches remained. The study system was annual from the department’s establishment until 2021. It was then changed to the course system, and then to the Bologna system starting in 2022. Students in the department study various practical and theoretical courses over four academic years, after which they are awarded a technical bachelor’s degree in engineering and are eligible to join the Iraqi Engineers Syndicate.
