Northern Technical University President, Prof. Dr. Aliaa Abbas Ali Al-Attar, attended the discussion of a master’s thesis at Mosul Technical College of Engineering, specializing in medical device engineering technology. The thesis was titled:
“Developing a System for Anemia Detection by Application of Deep Learning Models Mendeley”
The thesis submitted by researcher Saab Khaled Ahmed outlined the design and development of a non-invasive smart medical system capable of detecting anemia cases by analyzing palm images using deep learning and computer vision techniques. The research relied on two main phases: open source data, namely palm images of children under the age of five from the Palm Anemia Imaging Chamber (PAIC) website, and the construction of a local database for adults using a special device designed by the researcher. The model achieved the best performance on locally collected data, with an accuracy of 99.6% in the training phase and 99.9% in the screening phase. It demonstrated high efficiency in detecting anemia cases in practical application.
The study recommended the following:
Expanding the local database to include larger numbers and age groups.

Linking images to hemoglobin values to provide a more accurate diagnosis of anemia level.
Adopting smaller, less expensive cameras to make the system more portable and usable in the field.
Studying the possibility of integrating additional deep learning techniques to improve implementation speed and prediction accuracy.
Developing the system’s programming interface to make it more interactive and user-friendly for medical staff.
