Northern Technical University organizes an anti-drug campaign in Kirkuk’s colleges and institutes.

Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Alia Abbas Al-Attar, President of the University, the Anti-Drug Committee held an awareness of seminar on the dangers of drug abuse, its health and societal impacts, and its legal attitude. Dr. Ammar Ali Muhammad, Chairman of the Committee, who spoke at the seminar about Article (40)of the Anti-Drug Law No. (50) of 2017, explaining the difference in legal measures taken against users, dealers, and promoters. The former are considered victims, while the latter and third are criminals, with punishments ranging from imprisonment to life imprisonment and execution. Dr. Yahya Younis, from the Security Permits Department and a member of the committee, spoke about the importance of the security aspect in eliminating drugs, given the negative role this dangerous scourge plays in disrupting and collapsing society, given that youth are a fundamental pillar in building societies. Regarding the health aspect, pharmacist Wael Munir Muhammad Sadiq, a lecturer at the Mosul Medical Institute, spoke about the impact of drugs on physical health, offering some advice and guidance against taking medications and stimulants without a prescription. He emphasized the need to be cautious when dealing with strangers to avoid falling into the trap of drug dealers who target the aware and educated youth. A large number of students from the colleges and institutes of Northern Technical University in Kirkuk Governorate participated in the symposium. It is worth noting that the Anti-Narcotics Committee operates within a unified strategy in cooperation with the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Division and the Security Permits Department.
