Northern Technical University Organizes a Seminar on Quota and Its Impact in the Political Sphere.

Under the patronage of the President of Northern Technical University, Prof. Dr. Alia Abbas Ali Al-Attar, the Women’s Affairs Division at the university organized a workshop entitled “Quota and Its Influence in the Political Field.”
The event was attended by a number of university staff members. The seminar was delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Waleed Ahmed Suleiman, who highlighted the concept of quota, its historical roots, the rationale behind its implementation, and its objectives. He also discussed the significant influence quotas can have in the political arena, as well as the challenges hindering their effective application.
The workshop also explored various international experiences in applying quota systems in elections and within legislative, local, and executive councils.
One of the key conclusions of the workshop was that quotas aim to ensure fair representation of certain groups in decision-making positions. The quota system is considered an important step towards achieving equality and empowering women in public life. The workshop emphasized the need to address legal, political, economic, educational, and cognitive challenges, as well as the importance of exchanging international experiences related to quota implementation.
It is worth mentioning that the Women’s Affairs Department at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has emphasized the importance of implementing the National Strategy for Iraqi Women, particularly in the area of political participation and development.
