Northern Technical University Organizes a Ceremony on the Occasion of Iraqi Wounded Veterans Day.

Under the patronage of the President of Northern Technical University, Professor Dr. Alia Abbas Ali Al-Attar, and as part of the university’s ongoing series of activities, the Department of Media and Government Communication at the university’s presidency organized a special ceremony to mark Iraqi Wounded Veterans Day. The event aimed to express gratitude and appreciation for the sacrifices made by wounded veterans in defense of the homeland and its citizens.
The ceremony featured a series of academic lectures delivered by:
Dr. Ammar Ali Mohammed, Director of the Legal Affairs Department at the University Presidency.
Dr. Waleed Ahmed Suleiman, Lecturer at the Administrative Technical College.
The presentations focused on defining the concept of a “wounded veteran” and outlining the legal protections afforded to them at both national and international levels. The speakers discussed relevant Iraqi legislation, including provisions within the Iraqi Penal Code, the Military Service and Retirement Law, and the Internal Security Forces Retirement Law. Particular attention was given to the Law on Compensating Victims of Military Operations and Terrorist Acts, which ensures access to healthcare and financial support for wounded individuals.
On the international front, the speakers addressed protections granted under the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Geneva Conventions, as well as specific articles from the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, which classifies attacks on wounded persons as war crimes.
The event concluded with a heartfelt poetic performance by Ms. Lamia Ahmed, who recited verses honoring the bravery and resilience of the wounded veterans, wishing them healing, peace, and well-being.
