As part of the scientific activities of the NTU President, she supervised the technical master’s thesis at the Mosul Engineering Technical College, which discusses:
“Optimization of Treated-Fly Ash-based High-Performance Geopolymer Concrete Against Acid and Sulfate Attacks”
The technical master’s thesis, specializing in construction materials technology engineering, was discussed at the College of Engineering Technology / Mosul, titled:
“Optimization of Treated-Fly Ash-based High-Performance Geopolymer Concrete Against Acid and Sulfate Attacks” the thesis submitted by the student (Ahmed Radhi Taha Khuder) examined the possibility of producing geopolymer concrete using waste materials such as fly ash (low calcium as a binder source), which geopolymer concrete is considered green concrete, using the Taguchi method for designing geopolymer concrete mixtures and exposing them to many appropriate factors under Heat treatment conditions. Study the durability characteristics of geopolymer and regular concrete, and then choose the best one according to the behavior of the materials. In addition to predicting the performance of geopolymer and plain concrete using an artificial neural network.
The thesis aimed to improve several geopolymer concrete mixtures using several parameters to produce the best parameters that give the best value for the mechanical properties that should be used for construction purposes and the resistance of geopolymer concrete against acid and sulfate attacks.
The thesis recommended:
1. This research used fly ash as a binder for geopolymer production. Other materials such as slag, calcined clay and limestone can be used for further studies.
2. Production of geopolymer concrete upon heat treatment using different types of stimulants such as potassium hydroxide and potassium silicate.
3. Verification of long-term mechanical performance for 180 days, combined with the use of other cementitious compounds to produce high-performance GPC.
4. Study the use of different or combined sulfuric acid solutions to further predict the performance of geopolymer concrete in harsh conditions.
