under the patronage of the President of Northern Technical University, Professor Dr. Aliaa Abbas Al-Attar, and under the supervision of the Dean of Mosul Technical Institute, Assistant Professor Shahla Abdulwahab Abdulqadir. The Department of Material Management Techniques organized a scientific workshop entitled “Environmental Costs and Their Role in Achieving Sustainable Development”. The lecture was delivered by Assistant Professor Mustafa Sahir Raouf. The workshop covered the following topics:
1. The concept of environmental costs.
2. Types of environmental costs.
3. Problems faced by environmental costs.
4. Environmental cost awareness and sustainability.
5. Sustainable environmental cost reduction areas.
The objectives of the workshop were:
1- To explain the concept of environmental costs and their role in determining sustainable development.
2- To clarify the cost awareness and its impact on sustainable development.
3- To measure hidden costs and determine their impact on performance in advanced companies and measure them through sustainable development.

The recommendations from the workshop were:
1- Adequate support from senior management for all departments should be provided to ensure the implementation of sustainable development practices.
2- Work should be done to intensify academic and applied research on modern methods of strategic cost management, as they have the ability to streamline sustainable development costs.
3- Economic units should disclose accounting policies and procedures related to environmental costs in financial reports, as this is important for increasing society’s confidence in the units’ role in reducing sustainable environmental costs.
