under the auspices of Dr. Aliaa Abbas Ali Al-Attar, President of the Northern Technical University, and under the supervision of Assistant Professor Shahla Abdulwahab Abdulqadir, Dean of the Mosul Technical Institute. The Department of Medical Laboratory Techniques held a lecture on “Bioremediation” as a scientific update, delivered by Dr. Mohammed Noah Sheet.

The lecture discussed the role of plants and microorganisms in soil, including bacteria and fungi, in breaking down soil pollutants, including petroleum derivatives and pesticide residues, into organic compounds and elements that plants can use. The end product is carbon dioxide gas and water. The lecture also highlighted the potential for implementing and activating bioremediation locally in situ or through the intervention of specialized laboratories ex situ to activate the role of bacterial and fungal species in this field.

The objectives of the event were to:

1. Learn about the advantages of bioremediation in soil pollution treatment.

2. Identify the mechanisms of increasing soil fertility.

3. Identify the most important microorganisms in soil and the metabolic pathways for pollutant bioanalysis.

4. Become familiar with the most reliable biotechnologies to activate the metabolic pathways of microorganisms in this field.
