Under the patronage of the President of Northern Technical University, Dr. Aliaa Abbas Al-Attar, and under the supervision of the Dean of Mosul Technical Institute, Assistant Professor Shahla Abdul Wahab Abdul Qadir, the Department of Information Technology and Libraries held a scientific course titled “Library Classification Systems: Dewey Decimal Classification as a Model” from May 7 to May 11, 2023.

Course Objectives:
1- To introduce the international classification systems used in libraries and information centers.
2- To introduce the Dewey Decimal Classification and the reasons for its widespread use in libraries.
3- Practical application by participants in classifying a collection of books using the main tables of the Dewey Decimal Classification and auxiliary tables, with an explanation of some exceptional cases in the system.
The course covers:
1- The use of the Dewey Decimal Classification system in all types of libraries, whether public, academic, or school libraries, etc.
2- Reviewing the latest edition of the Dewey Decimal Classification system and its use in libraries, to keep up with the updates made to the plan.
Recommendations:
Conducting more courses and workshops on Dewey Decimal Classification, with a focus on the practical aspect.
