Under the patronage of Dr. Alia al-Attar, the President of NTU, and the supervision of Dr. Abdul Nasser Kashmola, the Dean of Polytechnic College of Mosul, the Department of Environmental and Water Resources Engineering Techniques, in collaboration with the Quality Assurance Unit, concluded a course titled “Introduction to Sustainable Development: Understanding the Three Dimensions (Economy, Environment, Society).

Objectives:

• To enhance a comprehensive understanding of the concept of sustainable development and its importance in achieving a balance between present demands and the rights of future generations.
• To clarify the three dimensions of sustainable development:
  • Economy: Achieving sustainable economic growth without depleting resources.
  • Environment: Protecting natural resources and ensuring their sustainability.
  • Society: Promoting social justice and improving the quality of life for all individuals.
• To highlight the interconnectedness among the three dimensions and how each influences the others to achieve integrated development.
• To enable participants to apply the principles of sustainable development in their fields of work, education, and community projects.
• To raise awareness of the role of individuals and institutions.

Recommendations:

1. Incorporate sustainable development concepts within academic curricula and university activities.
2. Establish a university center or committee concerned with the implementation and follow-up of sustainability initiatives.
3. Organize periodic workshops to promote an integrated understanding of the three dimensions of development.
4. Encourage applied scientific research in development fields.
