A student from the Northern Technical University wins fourth place globally at Startup Weekend Mosul 2026.

Mohammed Laith Mu’ayyad, a graduate of the Electrical Power Engineering Technology Department and a student at the Technology Incubator Unit of the College of Engineering Technology, achieved a global accomplishment by winning fourth place at the global event Startup Weekend Mosul 2026.

The event witnessed wide participation from entrepreneurs, programmers, and specialists from various universities and disciplines. Its aim was to support innovation and transform entrepreneurial ideas into viable projects within an intensive timeframe.

This distinction was achieved through his pioneering project, “The Smart Seat,” an innovative solar-powered device that provides charging ports for phones and mobile devices, in addition to LED lighting for outdoor spaces. Its design offers comfortable seating in parks and public facilities.

8 The event was held as part of an intensive 54-hour program at the Mosul Center for Culture and Science, in partnership with GIZ Iraq, within the #TAEUFIQ (Team Europe) initiative, and with joint funding from the European Union and the Federal Republic of Germany.
