The Northern Technical University continues its achievements.
The University President, Professor Dr. Alia Abbas Ali Al-Attar, proudly announces that the university has been awarded the UNESCO Chair in Heritage Preservation and Reconstruction of Mosul Old City. This award follows a positive evaluation by UNESCO experts and representatives, who confirmed that the university received initial approval and successfully passed the evaluation phase. The university is currently in the process of finalizing and officially signing the agreement.
This achievement is the result of tireless and intensive efforts by the President of the Northern Technical University. The university is among a very select few to receive this advanced ranking, underscoring its growing standing in the international academic and research arena.
This chair holds significant importance for the university, particularly given its focus on preserving Mosul’s heritage and reconstructing the Old City. This will be achieved through: 1. Documenting the cultural and architectural heritage of Old Mosul and raising awareness of the importance of its preservation. 2. Supporting specialized studies in the protection of antiquities and historical buildings, and developing scientific visions for reconstruction and sustainable preservation. 3. To enhance the international accreditation of the university’s degrees and support their acceptance by global academic institutions. 4. To develop international cooperation by building partnerships with prestigious universities and UNESCO-accredited research centers. 5. To implement global programs and activities, including workshops, conferences, joint research, and the exchange of expertise, that contribute to raising the level of academic staff and students. 6. To support innovation and scientific research by providing an international scientific platform that contributes to developing research projects and expanding their societal impact. 7. To enhance the university’s reputation as a leader in the fields of sustainable development and higher education, in line with UNESCO’s global objectives.
The university affirms its commitment to proceeding with the signing of the agreement, reflecting its vision of strengthening its regional and international standing and serving the academic community both locally and globally.
