Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Qusay Al-Suhail, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the World Conference for the Convergence of Cultures held the Second International Scientific Conference on Religious and National Diversity and Community Integration in collaboration with the Northern Technical University and Mosul University under the slogan “Our diversity is the source of our strength “.The meeting took place in Al- Hdbaa Hall in Mosul Technical Institute .The conference was attended by elite official ,military and political leaders, religion men and thinkers of several countries, including Syria, Lebanon, Algeria and Iran, in addition, the participating researchers from Iraqi universities. Prof. Dr. Mowafak Yahiya Hamdoon, President of the Northern Technical University, told the media that the conference is being held to promote the culture of moderation, avoid extremism and atonement and provide an opportunity for researchers and thinkers to study the phenomenon of extremism and find successful scientific solutions to address it. The conference started with a wonderful recitation from the Holy Quran, playing the national anthem, reading Al-Fatihah on the souls of the martyrs of Iraq and then a welcome speech in which the conference was opened by Dr. Qusay Kamal Al-Din Al-Ahmadi, President of Mosul University followed by a speech by Sheikh Mohammed Saeed Al-Nomani, who pointed to the importance of holding the conference in Mosul, the citadel of civilization and culture, and said that the delusions of the ISIL did not achieve a foothold in this city, which has deep roots and cultural roots. He pointed out that the rapprochement between doctrines does not mean disintegration and we have to think about what brings us together while preserving the beauty of our diversity. Mr. Jaber Al-Jabri then pointed out the depth of the challenges facing us and the need to confront them with greater awareness, social cohesion and intellectual reform. The speech was followed by the head of the Sunni Endowment, said by Sheikh Qutaiba Al-Amash, in which he pointed to the fact known by the workers in the fields of Islamic thought is that what combines the schools and Islamic schools above what distinguishes them. Bishop Nizar Ajam delivered a speech in which he pointed to the need to spread the spirit of love and tolerance among people and the need to avoid the inflammatory rhetoric that incites hatred because that is the basis for building a healthy society in which everyone lives according to the principle of citizenship. The opening ceremony included poetry and singing activities and the distribution of certificates to the researchers and organizers of the conference. Then the conference started with eight research sessions that were distributed on the different themes of the conference.
